It’s a safe and efficient orthopaedic treatment and effective alternative to steroid injection therapy.
SWT is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment in which a device is used to pass acoustic shockwaves through the skin to the affected area, it can be utilised in the treatment of various tendon pathologies such as:
Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles Tendinopathy
Patella Tendonitis
Frozen Shoulder
Adhesive Capsulitis
Shoulder Injuries
Tennis Elbow
Golfers Elbow
Hip, Shoulder, Elbow and Knee Bursitis
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
The shockwaves stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms to facilitate the repair of the damaged tendon. A normal course of treatment will consist of 3 sessions with no more than a
2-week gap between sessions. Up to 3 further sessions may be required for chronic conditions. Research indicates that symptoms will be improved any time up to 12 weeks post the last treatment. However, frequently results are seen during the period of time shockwave is being administered.
What Can I Expect From Shockwave Therapy?
Patients often experience noticeable improvements very soon after a ShockWave therapy treatment; However, there are some that take a few weeks to respond. On occasion, some patients may experience a slight increase in discomfort, but all these reactions are normal responses. It is important to complete the full treatment plan to achieve complete resolution. You will be asked to attend for a follow-up review 6-8 weeks after your final session
